Arabic Language? Is Arabic one of the easier languages to learn as a second language? I already speak American (incorrect form of english) and have taken like 3 years of spanish so I am ok at that. would the basic spanish I know help me in learning Arabic? oh I thought maybe spanish would help cause I heard someone who spoke arabic saying that it was easy to learn spanish for them because the sentence structure and some words were the same. Also my college offers the classes so im going to take it there. it is a very beautiful language and one i would love to learn. just thought I would get opinions on how hard it will be for me next semester.
What would be the best way to learn the arabic language? I am a criminal justice major and I think it would be a huge leg up for me if I could speak or understand a dialect of the arabic language. I have heard that I should study the Egytian dialect as it is the widely used (I think). What would be the best way to learn the language. Any free websites or material that I can refer too? Also I've heard alot of good things about the RosettaStone program. It would cost $329.00 for the program (or $50.00 a month), would it be worth it or has anyone had any experience with the program? Also I am more of an auditory/tactile learner. If I had an hour a day to dedicate to the language how long would it take for me to be able to speak and understand the language somewhat fluently?
How could I learn arabic language through songs? I would like to study the arabic language at home but without following regular classes, just through songs, their translations and transcriptions. Is there anyone with such an experience? Any suggestions would be welcome

What branch of the US Military will train me in the Arabic Language? I'm sure all branches offer Arabic training, but which branch is the most effective and intensive with respect to language training and career opportunities? Thank you for the great answers, just one more question. What determines one's eligibility to be accepted into the Defense Language Institute? Is it possible to determine my eligibility before enlisting? I wouldn't want to risk enlisting, just to be turned away from Arabic language training because of say, poor test scores or other factors. Could I take this test and pass or fail it before enlistment.. or is enlistment a prerequisite?
Where in Auckland, New Zealand are Arabic language lessons taught? Hello all. I am a multilingual lover of languages and I want to add to my repertoire by trying Arabic. I was wondering where in (preferably central) Auckland I can find a place that gives lessons. Obviously, there is the option of a private tutor but finding an institution that gives traditional classes would be great. Thanks.

AUC arabic language program, egyptology and psychology? I would like to start w/ the intensive arabic language program for beginners Amer. Univ. of Cairo has...anyone have an opinion on the school or that program? Also, is it unusual for someone who is non traditionally aged to take courses there under the undergrad. program? I studied romance languages before and minored in pyschology, but I didn't complete a bachelors. Now I have a chance to go if accepted, however, I'm 29 w/ 3 kids and a supportive husband to help me complete the program if things work out. For now I only can commit to one year in egypt and would like to see how that works out and just take the intensive arabic language program. However, one year of that school is costly in my opinion and for my budget. I could do a lot of traveling for the $17,000.00 yearly tuition instead. Do you think I could learn as much with just a tutor who'd cost less? Or is immersion in cairo just as helpful? I learned a lot of italian by just living in italy for 5 mos... no, i'm not leaving my children or spouse behind. Am joining my husband when he transfers w/ his job to egypt for a year. he's a native egyptian and happy to be able to return. I hope to enjoy it as well.
Fluent in Arabic, Translation Certificate and best language degree? I am a student who desires to be fluent in Arabic and eventually become an Arabic translator. My back ground in Arabic includes 2 semesters, Arabic 101 and 102, and also 2 semesters of being tutored by a native speaker. The college I am attending doesn't offer the next course of Arabic I need so I have to take a semester off. I have tried to find a tutor but with no luck. Does anyone know of some good online course that are inexpensive? Next Question: Is it a good idea to get a translation certificate and if so from where? Or is it better to just have a degree in Arabic? Does anyone know of the best colleges to get a Arabic language degree? also a list of some inexpensive colleges with a Arabic degree would be appreciated. Any information you can supply would be great even personal experiences that don't really answer my questions. I just desire knowledge. (sorry its so long)
Arabic Language Schools in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)? Does anybody know if there are Arabic language schools in Addis Ababa. If so, do they have any websites and how much do they go for (dollar). I will be spending some time in the country and would appreciate it greatly if someone could tell me what my options are for continuing my studies in Arabic while there. (This question is directed primarily at Ethiopians)
Where can I find Arabic-language literature online? I am learning Arabic, and would like to make bilingual texts (Arabic-English) of anything I can find online in both languages. The difficulty level of the texts is unimportant, but I would need it to be in a format which can be copied and pasted (i.e., not a graphic file). Is there anywhere I could find dual-language pieces of literature, or, failing that, Arabic versions of works which are common enough to have English translations available online? (It doesn't even have to be literature, actually, as long as it is a piece of writing available in both languages.)

Thank you for the link, but I'm actually not looking for a translator, but a site where one could find famous works of Arabic literature in Arabic. For example, The Thousand and One Nights, or poems by Khalil Gibran.
Will I retain the Arabic Language? I'm visiting family in Jordan this summer, and every year I go I feel so left out because I only know very little Arabic. My dad speaks it fluently (I hate how he never taught me!) I wonder if I only spoke Arabic in my house for the next couple of months, and I got him to only speak Arabic, do you think I'd be able to retain the language? I guess the problem is we aren't home together as much as I'd like. Should I "supplement" my home plan with sparatic phone calls to my dad just to talk to him? haha. I know how to read and write arabic, and my pronounciation is good. I've also tried books, CDs, websites, and classes including Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone. They help a little bit, but not as much as I would like. I will pretty much do ANYTHING to learn this language (Studying abroad is not an option right now though, maybe in the future) Can I get some tips to make my learning experience more successfull?
do you all know that the Arabic language was the root of all languages? i was reading an article about the arabic language which has many similar words of the english language and In common with other European languages, many English words are derived from Arabic, often through other European languages, especially Spanish and Italian, among them every-day vocabulary like "sugar" (sukkar), "cotton" (quṭn) or "magazine" (maḫāzin). More recognizable are words like "algebra", "alcohol" and "zenith" (see list of English words of Arabic origin).

Why is the Arabic language so strange? A friend of mine, years ago, was attending the defense language school, trying to learn Arabic, I believe. He had to drop Arabic and learn another language because, when speaking the language he couldn't reach a certain high note in his speech. I've always been curious about this. I hope I'm making sense.
can anyone tell me history of arabic language, i mean is its history tracable.? As far as I know every language has roots and humans have developed their languages to communicate with themselves. If there is an all-knowing and powerful deity then he need no language to understand his creation, why arabic people claim that the arabic langauge will be spoken in the afterlife ( no one cares to ask what if there is no afterlife and all believe that it 100 percent exists ). I need to know about the roots of the arabic language is there anyone who can answer my question or refer me to the literature.

Could the Arabic language lead to inaction in business? The Arabic language has such high flown rhetoric and exagerrations that some social scientists hold that in Arab culture, a statement of intent is nearly as psychologically satisfying as the actual act of accomplishment. Could this be one of the reasons the Arab culture lags so far behind the West in scientific development and economic well being?
