JUST CURIOUS: are there any countries where non-Islamic people can adopt Middle Eastern children?

I am not adopting...just curious. But are there? I know that non-Muslims can't adopt from Islamic countries. So I was wondering if saying, "Non-Muslims can't adopt from Middle Eastern countries." would be incorrect. I don't mean adopt...but guardianship (at least) where they would adopt the child in the USA.

  1. I'm pretty sure that basically, anywhere that Islam is involved-either with the child being adopted or the parents adopting-that adoption does not happen. It's actually against the Islamic religion's beliefs to adopt or place for adoption. So yes, basically that statement is correct. Hope that helps.
  2. About the closest you'll come I think is India. India has an international adoption program. More people are Hindi than Muslim in India, but Islam is the second largest religion there.
  3. I think the only reason is that they want to preserve the kids culture and beliefs. I would never adopt someone from Ireland (even though i love their culture, its so intriguing) because I have an extremely different culture and would be taking away the child's heritage and home.
  4. I believe in Lebanon it isn't an issue but be careful. My husband (who is Lebanese and first generation Lebanese-American) had a cousin who tried adopting over there with her husband who is only half Lebanese. The only problem was they got a bit of the run-around, presumably because certain people over there knew they had money and they kept asking for more from them. But they are not Muslim and a lot of Lebanon is not Muslim either. Sorry such a long answer!
  5. No non Muslims are not allowed to adopt from Muslim countries because one adoption in Islam isn't like how the West sees adoption. It's more like transferring gaurdianship over to a couple. Also in Islam we can't give the child our last name. It has to keep it's own last name that it got from it's father. Plus there is the fear that if someone who isn't Muslim adopts from a Muslim country then the child won't be raised in Islam and all children are born in a state of Al Fitrah meaning belief in one God which is ALLAH(SWT) and all children are to be raised Muslims.
  6. You can adopt alot of children from India. 7 yrs from now I am going to adopt a Vietnamese Child.

  8. Here's a notice put out by the State Department that might interest you: http://travel.state.gov/family/adoption/intercountry/intercountry_3132.html Also, research individual countries here: http://travel.state.gov/family/adoption/country/country_369.html to see what you can find.
  9. This one (USA). I know someone who adopted 2 Muslim boys through DSS, but, like I've said before, NOTHING would get ME to go through DSS.
