Was prophet Muhammed really given victory by terrorizing people?

There is a famous prophetic statement told by prophet Muhammed and narrated by Bukhary, Muslim and other scholars. The statement says that prophet Muhammed said about himself he was so special person because he was given victory by terrorizing people and also because god allowed him to loot his enemies. The above statement is in most Hadith book. NO NO NO if u knew the battle that the hadith was talking about u would have got it right. briefly, the battle of tabook , the last battle for the prophet , the muslims were plenty in number , but though after meeting their enemies , they started to distribute and some even run away from the field , and only 100 out of thounds became around the prophet defending him, that battle the angels were sent down to the field , they appeared to the enemies in the appearance of human so when they saw a huge no of the army they ran away because of fear. that doesn't mean that he terrorized anyone. he never did.
