What is the value of Hadith when we muslims have QURAN E KAREEM?
In these days, a lot of people are using Hadith, giving them numbers and page numbers, in all languages. Don't forget, in Islamic world, there are approximately 25000 ethnicities and a lot of languages. not only arabic. If we collect all the sayings of the Prophet pbuh (not translations), and his quotations from other people from him, it adds up to 3000 years of only his talking. it means, a person needs 3000 years long only to deliver orally its contents. I dont mean to provoke anyone, but if we read the Hadith from Sayidina Aisya and Sayidina Fatma we see no melody or aroma of womanly islamic mannerism. Alhamdulillah we have Quran. Thats why my question is, if we have Quran, then why do people quote all the time only Hadith, for e.g about stoning women (Africa). in Quran, there's not a single sentence about stoning as a punishment from human to human. But a lot of people say everyday, the Prophet s.a.w said this and that. who are these people who quote such Hadiths? Are they Muslims?

- OMG! You have just become my favourite Muslim on R&S! Hats off to you! I have always been of the opinion that Islam's biggest problem lies in the concept of Hadith. Don't forget that killing the apostates of Islam (that would be me) cannot be found in Qur'an, but in Hadith only. And let's not forget that Bukhari collected Hadith 200 years after Muhammed's death. A single man, who collected more than 7500 saying of the prophet, who allegedly even offered 2 rekaats of prayer for guidance before approaching each Hadith, who supposedly checked out the report chain, biography of the narrators, their characters and so on ... couldn't have done it - he simply didn't have the time to do the job thoroughly! Records say that he spent 16 years of his life collecting Hadith, let's not forget that he had a life during those 16 years. Some geniuses have calculated that assuming that he did do the job, he coudln't have had more than 10 minutes to process each Hadith. Am I to trust a man who let's be fair didn't do his job well?! Phew! Sorry for ranting here, I just don't happen to come across a Muslim like you so often. Eid Mubarak! :) P.S. Isn't there a verse in Qur'an where god asks believers whether they have another book to refer to besides Qur'an? And I'm quite sure that in one verse god orders Muhammed not to interpret Qur'an to anyone - so down goes the argument of Hadith being an extension to Qur'an. .
- Salam, Personally, I think it's important for Muslims to use both the Quran and the Ahaadith because the Quran are the RULES... the Ahaadith is HOW to PRACTICE the rules. If a Muslim is unsure about the meaning of a particular verse of the Quran, it's been said that the Sunnah and sayings of the Prophet should be looked at. As the Prophet Muhammad (s) said in the Last Sermon: " I leave behind me two things, the QUR'AN and my example, the SUNNAH and if you follow these you will never go astray." Perhaps it's not a wise idea to base one's ideas on just the Hadith, as sometimes, the Hadith don't have a trusted chain of narrators.
- I think some of us put far too much trust in the Hadith, often just as much as they do Quran. We have to remember that Quran is from Allah, only it is perfect. Hadith were not recorded at the time of the Prophet (saws), and while they are good to use as a guide to understanding Quran, some of them contradict Quran and should be recognized as doing so.
- yea man, totally agree with u. Most of our ppl right now r lost within the Hadiths and have forgotten about the Quran. Hadiths are good to give us a reminder how the prophet lived and the stories related to it. But too much emphasis should not be paid on them since we cannot authenticate them 100%.
- Sorry if the following sounds way to strict, or serious, and/or just plain mean :)!-- From what I know, The Holy and Glorious Quran, just tells us what to do. The Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) tells us HOW to do it. Like, if a teacher told you to write an essay (the Quran). What should be in it, and how should it be written, in cursive or print? on the computer, or with paper? With Pen or Pencil? All these answers the teacher would tell you. (the Hadith) What the quran tells us to do, is like buying a new flat screen TV. The Job is (the Quran) to put up the TV. The Instruction Manual is just like the hadith. Get it? The Quran Tells us Our Goals. The Hadith Tells us how to get there. The Quran Doesn't Say EVERYTHING. Would the quran actually say something about sex? or Alcohol? NO. He (Allah) knew that the quran will be translated. And kids would read their native tongue as well as Arabic, and would want to know what the quran means. So he would want the kids to be protected. and the hadith gives us advice. I am pretty sure the hadith counts as sunnah. so i wouldn't expect a shite to accept decisions made with reference to the hadith.
- Dear Brothers / Sisters Assalaamu Alaikum Warahmatullah The foremost obligation to be a Muslim is to utter the words “La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasolullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) and believe its meaning by heart and soul. Now if some one shall say I will believe La ilaha illallah, means there is no Diety other than Allah and does not believe Muhammadur Rasoolullah (peace be on him) means I shall not believe him to be Prophet of Allah, then can he be a Muslim? “No definitely No”. No doubt, a Muslim has to follow Holy Book Quran as his primary guidance to carry out the orders laid down by Allah. Now let us analyze, whether we can follow Quran without the Instructions explanations and sayings of Rasoolullah sallallahu alaihi wasallam. 1.Allah orders us to offer Salaat obligatory prayers. Does Holy Quran explains how to perform Salaat? 2.Allah Orders us to observe Fasting during Ramadhan? Does Holy Quran answers in detail all the questions and rules? 3.Allah orders us to give Zakaath, an obligatory Tax. Does Holy Quran explains in detail; how much on our cash savings, cattle, and agricultural produce? 4.Allah orders us to perform Haj in Holy Quran? Does Holy Quran provides you all the details of performing Haj. Dear All, the above items are from the five pillars of Islam and most important, then how will you know the details about it? Alhamdulillah our Holy Prophet Muhammad peace be on him has explained about it in minute detail through his instructions, sayings and practical examples and they are Called Hadeeth!!!! 59:7. ……So take what the Messenger assigns to you, and deny yourselves that which he withholds from you. by And fear Allah. for Allah is strict in Punishment. 4:65 But nay, by thy Sustainer! They do not [really] believe unless they make thee [O Prophet] a judge of all on which they disagree among themselves, and then find in their hearts no bar to an acceptance of thy decision and give themselves up [to it] in utter self-surrender. Ahadeeth (plural of Hadeeth) are on numerous other topics, which are essential for a Muslim in every day life and they were remembered and recorded right during the life of our Holy Prophet by his companions and later they were compiled honestly and diligently by eradicating the false sayings which were introduced by few corrupted persons. So the Famous Sihah Sitta or Six sets of Prophetic sayings are most authentic and we are obliged to use them together with Holy Quran. Again as a caution to every one, by just reading these books you cannot become a Faqeeh or a Islamic jurisprudent and start giving Fatwas religious ruling as few ignorant are doing these days to avail humiliation from Non Muslims. While One cannot become a Doctor, a Surgeon, a Lawyer, an Enginner by just reading the books available in that discipline without studying in College for a prescribed period of time and give exams, for the specific reason that these disciplines have to be learned under the intellectuals of authority under each discipline. How come, Religion and faith, which is so important for your eternal life is so easy? But it does not mean every Muslim has to undergo years of Religious studies and become a Faqeeh. Allah has ordered us that we should follow the Religious Scholars too after following Allah, His holy Prophet peace be on him and the religious authorities. 4:59. O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. If ye differ in anything among yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if ye do believe in Allah and the Last Day: That is best, and most suitable for final determination. May God Almighty Allah Guide all the Humanity towards the Straight Path Amen.
