Question about a hadith?
Salam Alykum, I have been reading this hadith book and I came across a hadith that has somewhat bothered me the hadith says. The Prohphet said (pbuh) GGod keeps forgiving a person until one reaches the age of sixty. what I want to know is if anyone has heard this hadith and is it a weak hadith I know some hadiths are weak and we don't go by them so thats all im wanting to know thanks... The book doesnt give it a refrence of where the hadith came from, the book is called the Wisdom of the Prophet and are just selcetions of hadiths but where translated by Thomas Cleary? I found one similar to a one of the hadith things i downloaded from... To make the Heart Tender (Ar-Riqaq) Bukhari :: Book 8 :: Volume 76 :: Hadith 428 Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Allah will not accept the excuse of any person whose instant of death is delayed till he is sixty years of age." see the book Im reading from I bought it from a Islamic bookstore but it doesnt give what section the hadith comes from, I will insha'allah contact the Imam tomorrow and ask about this though. @red.tullips's if you can find that out I would be so appreciated jazakha'allah khair.

- could u cite some sources? perhaps that would help, wat hadith book did u get it from? who was it from? al bukhari? muslim? abdu dawud? sunan ibn majah? tirmidhi? an Nasat?
- first time i hear about this hadith, i did hear one that most people die around 60,but never what you said. make sure what source the book is from. maybe you could call the mosque around you and leave a message with you Q and they will call you back. can you like tell me under what section is it in , in the book. edit. kimo i agree with you its a i just found it in the web site for the mosque i go to and its there. i have to ask a shaikh what is really meant by the hadith. http://www.op-pc.org/islam/hadith/index.cfm?class_id=1&book=76 i sent them an email i will see if they respond in acouple of days insha Allah if they email me back i will tell you . edit . kimo yes i agree with you its a hadeeth in Sahih Al Bukhari .. so its true(insha allah). and i do think that your explination is the one i thought it meant . thanks
- actually, this hadith is contradicting with the fact that Abu Kuhafa (father of Abu Bakr) went to prophet Muhammed (PBUH) while he was VERY old to do Shahada... another Hadith tells that repent is accepted until servant of Allah is *yo3'ra3'er* (his soul is leaving)... i never heard that Hadith u already said.
- no, i do not believe that this hadith is real, as it is illogical. god will forgive all his servants even at his biggest mistake, as long as his servants wants to be forgiven. as long as we are still given the chance, we must ask for forgiveness. when we die, the gate for forgiveness will close. don't just trust any hadith that you come across reading. it might be fake. i've even come across a fake al-quran! so please, be careful of what you read.
- It's funny people are attacking the hadeeth without checking its authenticity or reading its explanation. The hadeeth is in Sahih Al Bukhari .. Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Allah will not accept the excuse of any person whose instant of death is delayed till he (or she) reaches the age of sixty years." [Collected by Al-Bukhari, vol. 8, #428] [Explanation: "I will start praying Salah and will do the Hajj (pilgrimage) when I get old," is a statement made by our parents and the adults, in probably every Muslim family today. Subhan-Allah! Does anyone of us know whether we will be able to live long enough in the first place? And even if we do live up to the age of sixty, what guarentee is there that all our previous sins will be forgiven by then, if we don't start practicing Islam now? That's why the Prophet (pbuh) warned us in this Hadith that such a person will not have the right to say on the Day of Judgment, "If Allah had given me another lease of life, I would have done good deeds," because he or she has been given a life long enough for him or her to do righteous deeds.]
- Assalam alaikum i agree with br Kimo I cant give you an explaination of this ahadeeth, however, i can point out a few things: Imam anwar al - awlaki explains in his hereafter lecture series, :Whenever everyone dies, they want to come back. The disbeliever wants to come back and become a Muslim, the sinner wants to come back and repent. Allah says, “Until, when death comes to one of them (those who join partners with Allâh), he says: "My Lord! Send me back, "So that I may do good in that which I have left behind!" No! It is but a word that he speaks, and behind them is Barzakh (a barrier) until the Day when they will be resurrected.” (Al-Mu'minun 23: 99 - 100) But by then its too late, your time is up. As soon as you leave, a barrier (the Barzakh) is put behind you and you will not be able to leave. Allah is giving you the opportunity to repent and come back to the straight now, before it’s too late. Because when that time comes, Tawbah (repentance) will not be accepted. Allah says, “Allâh accepts only the repentance of those who do evil in ignorance and foolishness and repent soon afterwards; it is they to whom Allâh will forgive and Allâh is Ever All¬Knower, All¬Wise.” (An-Nisa 4:17) When Allah says “soon”, what does that mean? Ibn Katheer says you have the opportunity to repent until the soul is ready to leave the body. Ibn ‘Umar reported the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: - “Allah, most Gracious and most Glorious, will except His servant’s repentance until his death rattle begins.” [Saheeh Sunan Ibn Majaah, vol. 2, No. 3430] and Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: He who seeks repentance (from the Lord) before the rising of the sun from the west (before the Day of Resurrection), Allah turns to him with Mercy. [Saheeh Muslim, Book 035, Number 6525] This is important because sometimes we live in this live thinking we can do what we want and repent at the end, but Allah says, “And of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death faces one of them and he says: "Now I repent;" nor of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful torment.” (An-Nisa 4:18) An example of this is what the Pharoah said before he died. Allah says about this in the Qur’an, “And We took the Children of Israel across the sea, and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) with his hosts followed them in oppression and enmity, till when drowning overtook him, he said: "I believe that Lâ ilâha illa (Huwa): (none has the right to be worshipped but) He," in Whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am one of the Muslims (those who submit to Allâh's Will)." Now (you believe) while you refused to believe before and you were one of the Mufsidûn (evil-doers, corrupts, etc.). So this day We shall deliver your (dead) body (out from the sea) that you may be a sign to those who come after you! And verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs , revelations, etc.). (Yunus 10:90 - 92) I think this ayat is the real explaination of the ahadeeth you mentioned: Allah says, “And of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death faces one of them and he says: "Now I repent;" nor of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful torment.” (An-Nisa 4:18) Bilal philips explains that those people who think they will keep sinning until they become old, and decide to do Hajj thn, will never be able to do it. they will be full of sin and they will either never be able to go for the journey, or even if they make it, they will be very impatient. and those of you who have been to hajj, you know the importance of manners and patient. its appalling when you see these old people with bad manners, who keep swearing and shouting ate everyone! Allah says, "The Hajj (pilgrimage) is (in) the well-known (lunar year) months (i.e. the 10th month, the 11th month and the first ten days of the 12th month of the Islâmic calendar, i.e. two months and ten days). So whosoever intends to perform Hajj therein by assuming Ihrâm), then he should not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commit sin, nor dispute unjustly during the Hajj. And whatever good you do, (be sure) Allâh knows it. And take a provision (with you) for the journey, but the best provision is At-Taqwa (piety, righteousness, etc.). So fear Me, O men of understanding!" (Al-Baqarah 2:197) and Allah knows best W'saalam alaikum
- Hadiths are in two sections. The hadith sahih and hadith daif. And they are in sanad and matn structues. It is always good to go with sahih! That is what I do bc I know they are strong. You have to watch books and make sure of this before you just purchase them. I see you are interested in hadiths mashAllah. Here is a link for a dowload of free (SAHIH) hadith software its what I use as well mashAllah and its ALL accurate and you will not have anymore questions like these.. http://the-hadith-software.en.softonic.com/ PS. the author if that hadith is sahih as well :)
- it is a weak one don't bother it
