Controversial question about hadith....... but i have to ask??
Salam Aleikum, Ok here goes. Let me start to say that i do not want to insult anybody here. But this is something i struggle with. Sometimes i accuse Christians of cherry picking when it comes to following their religion. They discard a big part of the OT saying it were old laws. Yet, my esteemed brothers and sisters who follow hadith with out wavering, in my eyes seem to do the same. I will admit, i always question Hadith, because it is man made. Men wrote down and collected the ahadith. I know about Isnad, i've read a lot about it, still i have big problems with most of it; because again it is man made. I make a distinction for myself between the things that numerous people saw the Prophet (PBUH) doing or saying (like prayers) and sayings only recorded by one or maybe 2 persons. Now, here is one hadith that i really do question. Don't tell me please it is a weak hadith, it is recorded in Muslim, and Muslim is considered to be trustworthy, right? Sahih Muslim, Book 8, Number 3425 states: 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hadhaifa, lived with him and his family in their house. She (i. e. the daughter of Suhail came to Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) and said: Salim has attained (purbety) as men attain, and he understands what they understand, and he enters our house freely, I, however, perceive that something (rankles) in the heart of Abu Hudhaifa, whereupon Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) said to her: Suckle him and you would become unlawful for him, and (the rankling) which Abu Hudhaifa feels in his heart will disappear. She returned and said: So I suckled him, and what (was there) in the heart of Abu Hudhaifa disappeared. Fact is, adult suckling is premitted in hadith. Does this not go to everything else we learned, especially when talking about modesty? Don't say the other wives disputed this. Ayesha said this was ok, and we see her as an great authority. Again, i do not mean to disrespect any one, this is just one example that makes me very uncomfortable with ahadith. It not only goes against the teachings of the Qur'an in my eyes, but also against logic. Peace, Tiffy @Jagoti: i do not claim to have all the knowledge to hadith, i'm not a scholar. How ever, i try to use my common sense. This hadith goes against it. I just try to understand more and better. Some brothers and sisters use ahadith that is considered weak to proof their point. So is it ok to use a hadith that is deemed weak if it is in your interest and discard it if it is not? This is exaclty why i have problems with ahadith. Peace, Tiffy And let me add something here: If some of the ahadith are so clearly fabricated, why not have a commission of wise scholars, go through all of them one by one and weed out the obvious fabricated and weak ones??? Would make live so much easier for all of us! @ Sina, i am not making my own religion. I question and use my brain. I'm sorry if you feel offended here. I asked the same question in R & S. I thought i'd get better answers here, but i've got 2 excellent answers there; backed up with evidence. @ sina2: Well i do not mean to diminish any one or their beliefs. Yet, if i doubt hadith i do get a lot of critisism from people who do follow it. Again, i do not discard all ahadith. I know there are a lot of valuable lessons there and a lot of things we do because of the same ahadith. But i just ask more or less to not take everything at face value, or blindly. Research, ask if things are not clear. That's just my opinion! @ Candace Hadith: also spelled Hadit (Arabic: “news,” or “story”) record of the traditions or sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), revered and received as a major source of religious law and moral guidance, second only to the authority of the Qur'an, or scripture of Islam. @page M: "If Quran is complete and fully detailed (as God says), where can we find the details of Salat prayers?" This famous question reveals total ignorance of Quran and a subconscious effort to prove that God is wrong in His repeated assertions that Quran is "complete" and "fully detailed." For the Quran teaches in no uncertain terms that Abraham is the founder of Islam as it is practiced today. As such, what did Abraham contribute to our daily life as Muslims? The Quran teaches that ALL RELIGIOUS PRACTICES IN ISLAM (Salat, Zakat, Fasting & Hajj) CAME TO US FROM ABRAHAM, GENERATION AFTER GENERATION. Thus, Islam in its final form, as is practiced today, is based on two things: (1) QURAN: contributed through Muhammad, and (2) RELIGIOUS PRACTICES: through Abraham. In 2:128 we see Abraham and Ismail implore God to teach them "THE RELIGIOUS PRACTICES OF ISLAM." "As Abraham raised the foundations of Kaaba, together with Ismail, they prayed, 'Our Lord, accept this work from us; you are the hearer, the omniscient. Our Lord, & make us Muslims to you; and from our descendants let there be a nation of Muslims to you; AND TEACH US HOW TO PRACTICE OUR RELIGIOUS DUTIES, and redeem us; you are the redeemer, the merciful.'" (2:127-128) ABRAHAM: FIRST (and last) RECIPIENT OF SPECIFIC RELIGIOUS PRACTICES. The prophets and messengers prior to Abraham were not given any religious practices. The human society was so primitive, only BELIEF IN GOD ALONE was all that is required for salvation. See for example Sura 71, entitled "Noah." Thus, RELIGIOUS PRACTICES appear in Quran ONLY after Abraham; never before him. "(O Children of Israel,) you shall observe the Salat prayers & Zakat charity; you shall bow down with those who bow." (2:43) I can go on, but i will leave it at this. Peace, Tiffy Oh..... and the hadith was NOT talking about the subject of marriagePage M!

- sounds convoluted to me!
- That's a question that needs to be answered by a scholar of hadith because I know there is more detail to it. If you studied hadith like you said you did then there should be NO question here. Does'nt appear that you have studied the Science of hadith very well because it is a Science.... for you to pick off one hadith and single it out with studying it further This site answers the perverted missionary tactic http://www.geocities.com/noorullahwebsite/shamoun-nursing.html#Why%20was%20nursing%20of%20adults
- This hadith seems like fabricated. There are many fabricated hadith in Sahih muslim, u will see some even in Bukhari. thats because they are not Allahs Word. EDIT Sina, i didnt reject this hadeeth,It was the 1st time i saw this hadeeth, and it didnt seem a sahih hadith to me, but now i know its sahih.
- I do not want to be rude but it's not nice to see Muslims here making their own religion! you do not trust Hadeeth and wht is diz rejects a Hadeeth in Muslim! how sweet! The Hadeeth is Saheeg/True 100% and this issue is very famous and has been used by Islam enemies million times! She has not suckle him DIRECTLY!
- It's OK sister but such comment is REALLY A HUGE THING! You have just removed 60% of the Islam in simple words! You can question any Hadeeth! ANYONE! but questioning people who follow Hadeeth and consider it like Quraan means questioning 99.99% of Ummat Al Islam!
- Good question. I would agree, I'm not too sure on hadith's. I would always look up in the Quran, and if I don't find my answer there then I will read hadith's to see what they say :) As you said, it's not Allah (swt) word so their could be mistakes etc. Allah (swt) said that He would protect the Quran from people changing it, but unfortunately you can't say the same for hadiths. Thats why you have to be careful.
- I don't know who hadith is; a person/place/thing. Anyway, I wouldn't follow her anywhere if she causes this much controversy.
- http://www.geocities.com/noorullahwebsite/shamoun-nursing.html Follow that link. It goes into every detail.
- So she suckled him and the ranklings disappeared , lucky guy. What other favors should women do for men in our quest to help them control the elusive movements in their pants? Poor men and their uncontrollable sexual urges and it is women who are directly blamed for their moral failings to the point where the women had to lift up her shirt to be suckled . Or maybe it is this yet another made up hadith by patriarchs living in a sexist society to keep women under the subservience of men. To protect the status quo which benefits them as males and continue keeping society segregated along gender lines with women occupying the lower stratas such as many other hadiths which speaks of women as if we are cattles and animals . How is it not degrading for a woman who had to suckle a grown up guy in order for him to be unlawful for her? And isn't Islam a religion which regard man as dignified beings who possesses free will, ability to reason and a higher spiritual nature ? And just where in the Quran does it say that lawfulness is determined by who one has been suckled ? Nowhere in the Quran does it say that. "O You who are a righteous , morally upright woman ,the all wonderful Muslim superwoman ! Bare thee chest for the poor soory sod who can't help himself who is not thee mahram to and let him suckle thee breast! Lo, indeed such are the righteous! Till thee do so, thee shall not not taste Paradise ". Completely ridiculous. If they'r not lawful for each other then so beit and just behave already then as mature rational individuals ought to according to Quran's instructions . If they expect us to wait for the Ulama's to finally come out of their ivory towers and denounce these hadiths as false , you and i both are gonna have to wait for a very long time. Frankly i couldn't care less what those brain dead zombies think . If you want a clearer of voice of Islam then you will find them on the fringes or on the fatwa list . These religious bureaucrats have their self serving interest to keep and dare not go against the grain or else they'd be driven out of the elitist circle that is the Ulama. Many ( in the hundreds ) schools of thoughts in Islamic history perished from the face of the earth simply by thinking differently , that is a hideous and bloody history but i won't go into it now. ;-) EdiT : Page M: The instructions for salat and wudu is complete in the Quran and as for cutting of hands, it says in the Quran to cut / mark the hands not cut off. What kind of Muslims would cut off the hands of anyone in any case? Brutal and unislamic. And that "sahih" hadith wasn't about marriage . It was about adult suckling .
- Hadiths contradict each other, and usually contradict the Quran as well, that's why I only trust what the Quran says.
- He was talking about marriage! How much more twisted do you want when you take a hadith and then make it something of your own intention. You know exactly what he was talking about and now really how stupid would it look for some grown boy to be sucking at that age. Get real man! B - if you trust only what the Quran says only then you cannot pray and you cannot wash and you must cut your hand off even in the smallest of theft. Where did you people learn Islam from a cracker jack box? AstugfarAllah Azeem!
- 99.9% Muslims will kill you for meddling with the hadith but they dont care whether the Quran is musunderstood or misinterpreted or mistranslated or used to mislead from the Path of Allah. I thought of asking a question why Muslims hate me because I believe in Quran first and hadith as only good advice when it is good advice but not when it contradicts Quran and I hate to hear ignorant Muslims say that hadith explains Quran when the Quran needs no assistance and Allah needs no assistance and Allah is the Only Guide. Alhamdulillah for your queation and may Allah reward you for being a Muslim sister. Salaamun alaikim
