How were the Surahs in the Quran ordered?

Rasulullah (SAW) didn't receive entire Surahs at once, sometimes only some Ayahs at a time. And he also didn't receive them in the order that the Quran is in now. So how and why was the Quran sequencially ordered in the way that it is in now?

  1. think they are orderd when surrahs from makkah and surahs from madina i think
  2. it was ordered during khilafath. Hazart Usman organized it.
  3. whenever some new ayah or surah used to reveal the prophet of Allah himself used to tell that write this ayah or soorah in such place
  4. The Koran was revealed as an ayat or two everytime the necessity arrived. For example, someone asked Prohpet Mohammad PBUH an issue (like divorce). The Prophet PBUH did not know the answer and the answer was instantly revealed. Similarly, for other issues like praying, nikah, dividing your estate between your kids. That is how most of the Koran was revealed. And then the rest of it was revealed when Allah saw fit. The Prophet PBUH used to recite the Koran to his companions, and they would then memorize it and it was like this for a while. Then, there was a battle (I can't remember which one it was right now) and in that battle, about 70 hafiz-e-Koran died and then the Prohphet PBUH ordered that the Koran be written down on paper. By then, Islam had also spreading outward so a paper copy was sent outward to far regions to be taught to new Muslims. This practice was used even strongly in the days of Caliphate (especially Hazrat Umar) who spent a great amount of time and money to have scholars, copy the Koran, annotate it, translate it, and add, zair, zabar, and paish (the Arabic accent marks) to make it easier for non-Arabic speakers to read, write, and study the Koran. And I think that Hazrat Umar was also the one who divided the Koran into its manzils, paras, surats, etc. and named the surats also. That is why some surat's have multiple names. The annotation and translation has been done by various scholars throughout time but it is also of course, left up to the individual reader.
  5. Meccian and Medinian sent in their time as they are needed. Allah is wise, mercyful. There was only one Surah sent down complete, the rest in parts and pieces.
  6. the surahs are organized that way now because of the different time periods that they were revealed, the places they were revealed in such as medinah and the ruler who came after the prophet also put them in a book form so that we woul not loose any of the messages.
  7. The angel gibreal recited the Quran in order to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be upon him) during ramadan normally and twice in his final earthly year.
  8. uthman organized the regular mushaf quran.
  9. The Surah's are ordered from longest to shortest.
