Which one is more important, reciting the Quran in Arabic or reading its translation/tafsir in English?

Which one is more beneficial? i think reading and learing its meaning is more beneficial. I know we get 1 sawab for reading each Arabic letter, but whats the point if you just recite it like that and dont understand it at all?God sent the Quran to guide us, how will we be guided if we dont understand it?

  1. more IMPORTANT to read the tafsir then read it in arabic to get thawab
  2. When reading the Quran you should no the translation and what it is your reading. So they're both beneficial
  3. Salaam, You are correct in saying that for each letter you read of the Quran in Arabic you get sawab. But at the same time Quran is meant to be read with understanding and to ponder on the words and meaning of it. There is no way for us to know which in the eye of Allah has more ajar, Only Allah knows. So, till we (non Arabic speaking) learn Arabic its a good idea to read the translation in English or the language you understand.
  4. YES...if u don't understand arabic, it's more beneficial to read the translation in a language you DO understand...but you still gotta read it in arabic though. most people don't even read the entire Quran in translation =( and just think it's okay to be done with it when they finish reading it in arabic. =/
  5. Both keep great importance. I don't think u can't recite the translation of Surahs in ur Salah, It would't do any good coz ur Salah will not be accepted so u really need to know the Quraan in Arabic. Sawabs r said in ahadith to motivate us & to get rewarded but our main purpose should be to seek the pleasuse of Allah. As 4 trans it is best to no so that we can implement the laws of Allah in our life.
  6. I agree with the tafsir bit, no point reading it if you don't have a clue what it's about
  7. one word can have a wide general meaning and very deep. the original language of the Quran of which Allah spoke with has codes that affect our spirits. the Tafsir will never be 100% accurate to the words of Allah, until today we still explore new things in the Quran everyday. i know Arabic, and truly this book is from God. what's more important than reading the Quran, is to to do good deeds of which Allah ask you to do in the Quran.
  8. Well there is good in both so if you can read it in English one day and do the Arabic the next day then you can get the best of both inshallah.
  9. read both ways But when u read arabic it has an effect on ur soul because its the word of god no errors in it . But when its a translation it may contain errors . But it is also important to read translation only then we know the meaning For more look www.aswatalislam.com (i think so just google it ) look zakir naik on lectures look shud al Quran be read with understanding or not
  10. i think reading its translation cos you still getting the whole message in your head like my grandma whos a convert but she cant read arabic so she reads it in english!
  11. Ofcourse in Arabic , but if u dont know arabic try reading it in english and try learning arabic cuz its a wonderfull language
  12. English is better so that people understand it.
