Hadith #6: Did 800 dirhams go to the slave or to the companion?

Sahih Bukhari~Volume 9, Book 89, Number 296: Narrated Jabir: The Prophet came to know that one of his companions had given the promise of freeing his slave after his death, but as he had no other property than that slave, the Prophet sold that slave for 800 dirhams and sent the price to him.

  1. I'm assuming that within the context of the hadith, the companion is deceased. I'ill give it a star and maybe someone else will be able to help Peace EDIT - I've been searching (God bless the internet!) "Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah: A man amongst us declared that his slave would be freed after his death. The Prophet called for that slave and sold him(1) The slave died the same year." The footnote for (1) says "The liberator was needy, so the Prophet sold the slave for him, permitting him to cancel his promise of freeing the slave after his death." Bukhari vol.3 book 45 (The Book of Mortgaging in Places Occupied by Settled Population) ch.9 no.711 p.427. It's not the same hadith, however it sounds similar. The slave owner was in need of money and therefore the prophet sold the slave and sent the money to the owner. Because he was needy, he was able to break his promise. Peace
  2. I saw another hadith, i think its the same story, but just different wording. It was for sahih muslim and buhkari and i couldn't find it on the net. The money went to the Owner Wallahu-a3lam. It sounds like the companion, don't u think? edit: i just re-read it. It doesn't say the companion has died. It says after his death he promised. But it seems more like since the companion was poor. The prophet sold the slave and gave him the reward. i got a hadith that might clearify this Volume 3, Book 46, Number 693: Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, "Whoever frees a Muslim slave, Allah will save all the parts of his body from the (Hell) Fire as he has freed the body-parts of the slave." Said bin Marjana said that he narrated that Hadith to 'Ali bin Al-Husain and he freed his slave for whom 'Abdullah bin Ja'far had offered him ten thousand Dirhams or one-thousand Dinars. so, by reading this hadith we can see that the money went to the owner.. right? edit faith: u beat me to it :>
  3. Nobody knows for sure which is the true story. What we DO KNOW is Muhammad as usual thinks he’s the one who can decide everything and violated even the dead man’s final wishes. .
  4. Another Hadith says " to let ur sons rich after ur death is better than letting them poor ask poeple for mony " i think according to that one and some other stories it went to th companion
  5. Even Abu Huraira did not the true story. He was a big liar.
