- Iraq before the US invasion. Saddam may have been a dictator, but he was a secular leader as well. He allowed liquor stores and pornography shops to operate in Baghdad. Women were allowed to go to college, drive a car, and work in high level jobs usually reserved for men.
- There are many. Almost 14% of the world claims Islam as its religion. With those numbers, about 10% of the countries in the world are ruled by Islamists. If there are 200 countries, that would mean about 20 countries are ruled by Islamists. I think it is probably more than that. I many of these are listed: Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Iraq, Iran, UAE, Yemen, Afghanistan, Turkey, Egypt, Somalia, Kenya, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bahrain, Djibouti. I dont know how many that is, but there are significant numbers in those countries and most of these are oil producing countries and thus have significant amounts of money.
