Is this recent story from Sudan representative of Islamic countries?
No insulting replies, just informed answers please? I'd really like to hear from those people who are always condemning Israel and Judaism - why do you not feel the same hatred towards countries like Sudan? The gist of the story: an English teacher in Sudan let her class vote on a name for the class mascot, a teddy bear. The pupils chose the name Mohammed. Now the teacher has been sentenced to 50 lashes. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news.wo

- wouldn't the world be so much nicer if religion was abolished...
- No it is not representative at all. Ignorance knows no boundaries, religious, cultural or racial.
- it's true in most countries that have large numbers of muslims/christians/jews, one groups is always going to be picked on.
- Is that the one where the women got arrest for breaking the law? Is it becuase we don't like their laws? Can we break laws in other countries we don't like or disagree with? Does that mean Muslims can break laws in our country that they don't like? EDIT: Earnest - that is mis-understanding my logic. It is not about what laws we have, it is about laws in countries we choose to visit. That is a local law and she broke it. Are you suggesting that we only need follow laws we agree with in other countries?
- just named my pet slug mohammed, to any one that takes offence , get over it , there are far more important issues
- 50 lashes? that means someone has to strike her back or something 50 times??????????? that's rediculous do people really practice that? what are they out of their minds? edit: I found the link!! you really shouldn't post without the correct link - ppl might say you invented it. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/africa/article2947734.ece
- It must typical because a woman in Saudi Arabia went in a car with a male, not related to her. They were both raped. She was sentenced to 90 lashes and when she protested, it was raised to 200. I think Muslim countries are barbaric. Especially to women. The poor women don't have the guts or the power to stand up for some sort of rights.
- Yes it is. "They are a stupid people". It could be worse the Prophet Mohamed make his money by marrying a rich widow, robbing camel trains to Mecca and murdering people who criticised him. The whole thing is just unbearable spectacle contrived by a bunch of grizzly brown and black people who wish to panda to the Wahhabis and make a pig's breakfast of their religion. They should be sent to the polar regions as punishment for bring their religion into disrepute. (how many bears did you spot?)
- (I can't imagine why such questions keep appearing in this "travel" section.) Although I'm not one who condemns any group, I'll try to answer you. http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/
- Arabic Countries not Islamic countries. and the link doesn't work btw.
- Go to show you that Sudan like many other counties do not follow the United Nations Conventions on Human Rights instead they follow the Shari Law instead which is unjust and out right barbaric to say the least. I may add a girl was in a car with some males and was gang raped by them. The offenders went to gaol and she was also sent to gaol with 200 lashes for being in a car of strange males without her garden chaperon.
- why don't you post this in saudi catagory
- Haw you make comment with no link?
- I must say I've never heard of anything like it before. Mix religious fervor with ignorance and backward logic and you never know what you'll get. It can be very scary as we are sometimes reminded. But nonetheless, I wouldn't say it is representative. Apparently the teacher was British and that probably had something to do with it. The authorities probably assumed she was trying to disrespect the Prophet. The link doesn't work, BTW.
