- I'm so glad you asked this question! Although I am not Muslim, just a scholar and repecter of all religions, I'll do my best to answer... Muhommed (spelled many different ways) was born around 570 AD in Mecca. He was orphaned at a very young age. *Remember : He lived in a time of myth and magic, where storytelling and genies were quite real and in a place of tribal warfare.* His uncle took him in, and he became a caravan driver. He fell in love with an older woman (Khadija, I believe), and soon got married; people in the village and his tribe LOVED him, he settled many disputes, and was kind and reliable. This is how Islam was born through him: he went to a cave and an angel (Gabriele maybe) came down to him, and told him he was to be the prophet of Allah (Allah literally means "the God"). Muhamed, being the humble person he was, was hesitant to believe this, and thought he was going crazy. His wife comforted him, and became his first convert to Islam. He began recieving the Kuran/Qu'ran (etc, many spellings) DIRECTLY from Allah (this became known as the standing miracle: he was an iliterate, but was able to speak these poetic and wise lines of the Kuran...in fact, it is said that the weight of the Kuran is SO heavy, the camel he was riding on was brought to his knees once, when Muhamed unexpectedly recieved a revelation...there are, I believe, 114 chapters or Surahs in the Kuran) He began preaching the words of Allah, and began gaining followers. Unfortunately, many of the tribes in Mecca were polytheistic, and resented this (it was bad for economy; many people sold idols of Gods in the markets, and were losing customers), but his uncle (who was the chief of the tribe) protected him. Unfortunately, his uncle died, and he no longer had protection. Muhamed was forced to take a blistering journey to Medina, where he was welcome to preach. It is said to be another miracle, that he and all his followers made it ther unscathed...He lived in Medina for a while, and then, after gaining more support, was told by his God to go back to Mecca. He prepared and army of 300 (or so) to fight their army of 1000--gaining more popularity, he changed the tides, and actually won against the Meccans. (another miracle). You know the greatest part? He showed all the Meccans, who had tried to kill him, ABSOLUTE MERCY. He should've...and could've...killed all those left in the city, but he let them live, and practice whatever religion they wanted. He grew quite old, remarried, and had many loyal children. Muhomed was a great soul and prophet, who was well-respected in his time and today. UNFORTUNATELY, there was a split in the religion, between the Sunni (majority) and Shi'ite (minority, factioned) because after the death of Muhamed, there was much disagreement over who'd replace him and such...so sad, to see such a great religion from an amazingly kind and merciful prophet, finding itseld in pain and violence. :( But I firmly believe that all of that will end one day, and we'll find peace wherever we can... I hope I helped! Good luck!
- He was born in 570 CE in Makkah Khadijah proposed marriage to Muhammad through a relative. Muhammad accepted the proposal. At that time, Khadijah was twice widowed and forty years old. Khadijah (ra) and Muhammad (s) were the parents of six children - four daughters and two sons. His first son Qasim died at the age of two. He was nicknamed Abul Qasim, meaning the father of Qasim. His second son Abdullah died in infancy. Abdullah was also called affectionately as ‘Tayyab’ and ‘Tahir’ because he was born after Muhammad’s prophethood. The four daughters were: Zainab, Ruqayyah, Umm Kulthum, and Fatimah (ra). In 622 CE, the leaders of the Quraish decided to kill the Prophet and they developed a plan in which one man was chosen from each of the Quraish tribes and they were to attack the Prophet simultaneously. Gabriel informed the Prophet of the plan and instructed him to leave Makkah immediately. The Prophet, after making arrangements to return the properties entrusted to him by several nonbelievers, left with Abu Bakr in the night he was to be assassinated. They went south of Makkah to a mountain cave of Thawr [see Qur'an 9:40], and after staying three nights they traveled north to Yathrib (Medinah) about two hundred fifty miles from Makkah. Read through the source. has a brief of his life. second source english language version of the Quran
- better to read Islam Unveiled by someone who was raised in that religion and then left it....his accounts are first hand
