I( heard she was only 9 years old when prophet Muhammed married her. Even if that was acceptable tradition by the time, was not prophet Muhammed supposed to prohibit it (same as when he prohibited adoption)?

  5. Muhammed never banned adoption. All he did was eliminate the Pre-Islamic custom of adoptees being considered as property and not really being free. Before Muhammed, adoptees were treated as slaves. As for Aisha's age, she was 6 when she was engaged, but 9 when they were actually married (by most accounts). That may seem to be really young today, but it was very common even in western Europe for this to happen (the average age in the Middle Ages for a bride was 14 years old), especially with political marriages. She was married to Muhammed to strengthen ties between him and Abu Bakr.

  12. Aaishah (May God be pleased with her) was married to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) when she was 6 but she did not live with him until she was 9 years old. Adoption was never prohibited and is not prohibited in Islam. Taking the last name of your adopters is not allowed because keeping the ties and knowing your lineage is very important in Islam. So the only thing prohibited was changing your last name (disowning your family). If you would like proof it is in Chapter (Surah) 33 (Ahzab) in Al-Quraan.

  16. She was 7 and he consumated the marriage when she was 9. According to Islam, one can marry based on 2 things. Mental maturity and pyhsical maturaty.   17. Whoever told you that she was nine years old, when she married the prophet, Muhammud, PBUH, does not know anything about Islam. I am a Muslim, and I know that she was either 9, 8, 11, or 13. In those times when you were around those ages, you were the same as a woman. You were not a small girl. You had already gone through puberty, and you were fully grown. Also, the prophet did not prohibit adoption. He prohibited renaming a person, after you adopted them. The prophet was a very kind, gentle, person. He always treated everyone equally. Finally, to all the ignorant people answering this question: Did your parents not teach you to hold your tongue? I do not go around making fun of anyone's religion, no matter what the cause. People should think before they speak their mind. Islam means peace, and any Muslim that is a true Muslim by heart can tell you that. Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), was a very great man, despite, all the falsehoods, that ignorant people say about the beloved prophet.

  19. Supposedly they were married when she was 6 years old, and the marriage was consumated when she was 9 years old.
