To what extent do Hadith play a role in Islam?
ie. Is one a Muslim if you reject the hadith. Can you truly practice Islam if you reject the Hadith. The Quran is a perfect book and dear to my heart, I will not deny that. Do you have Quranic proof about being obidient to Hadith? Did Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) say to collect Hadith? Just wondering ?

- Basically, the Hadith and Quran are the main two things that guide us Muslims. I'm not sure about the "Is one a Muslim if you reject the hadith" part because that is not for us to judge...that is for Allah to judge. About the "Can you truly practice Islam if you reject the Hadith" part... I think that throughout our lives, Muslims or Non-Muslim... if we do the good things and reject the bad things, we are basically practicing what the Hadith says. About the "Did Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) say to collect Hadith?" part... whether or not he asked to collect them, I think that it's been collected because it helps us throughout our days...It guides us...some of them are more like explanation to the contents of the Quran.
- 1.practically all groups reject this or that hadeeth, lack of evidence 2.islam is what prophet practiced, that is all in quran-hadeeth almost as history so it is helpful 3.quran is perfect and as it is revealed to prophet. Muhammed. 4.a hadeeth is a narration by sahaba saying prophet was/done/told etc. in the quran it saying to obey prophet and we know prophet is best example. 5.he was keen to preserve quran as it is. again hadeeth narration of sahaba, when questions came how, or what on certain things they explained it. In a nutshell all hadeethes which is against quran is false.
- A muslim is the one who obeys Allah and follow Quran and Quran tells us to follow Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) which means for being a muslim completely you have to obey and follow sunnah and ahadith. If we leave off the Sunnah then this part of the verse has no meaning. Allaah Says (what means): "Whoever obeys the Messenger, has obeyed Allaah." [Quran; 4: 80] Quran and Sunnah compliment each other. although the Quran is easy to understand, it does need to be explained so that it is properly understood. Allaah Says (what means): "And when We have recited it to you [O Muhammad through Jibreel (Gabriel)] then follow you its (The Quran's) recital. Then it is for Us (Allaah) to make it clear (to you)." [Quran; 75: 18,19] Allaah Says (what means): "…And We have sent down unto you (O Muhammad) the Reminder, that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought." [Quran; 16: 44] Quran tells us many things like about zakat, salat, jihad etc but how do we actually practice it? only Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) showed us all. Therefore, you can read from the Quranic verses that Allah clearly tells us that we are to follow Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) as Allah has chosen him the last messenger and a mercy upon all of us. Had we weren't to follow the sunnah or ahadith, you and me would have had committed so many sins because we wouldn't have known the right way to practice acts. Thus, Hadith plays a very important role and makes a Muslim a complete muslim~!
- To the extent that the Ahadiths are sayings of our Prophet (saws) which reveal to us his Sunnah. And that if we don't willingly follow his Sunnah, then we cannot call ourselves Muslims. They were written down upon his request after the Qur'an was completely revealed, so that there not be any confusion between the words of Allah and his instructions which were offcourse inspired by Allah (swt). The Hadiths are our instructions on how to practically live an Islamic life. The Qur'anic proof is that Allah (swt) commanded us to abide by His messengers rules, and the Prophet told us that after he's gone we are to live our lives according to his Sunnats- we are to emulate his actions and character. I don't have any references on hand, but to be honest with you, I thought this was a given amongst the Muslims. And Allah knows best.
- Basically muslims pick and choose which Hadith they follow... some choose to follow them, others use the Quran only. If I debate with a muslim and use a paticular Hadith as evidence then they always come out and say 'oh we dont follow Hadith' because they can't give me an explanation!
- Allah SW clearly instructed us in his Holy Quran; to follow and believe what our prophet Mohamed tells us to do and be away what he tells us not to do. Holy Quran 59:7 (Surah Al-Hashr verse 7) What Allah has bestowed on His Apostle (and taken away) from the people of the townships belongs to Allah to His Apostle and to kindred and orphans the needy and the wayfarer; in order that it may not (Merely) make a circuit between the wealth among you. So take what the Apostle assigns to you and deny yourselves that which he withholds from you. And fear Allah; for Allah is strict in Punishment. So if we reject the Hadith, it is like that we have rejected the Holy Quran itself.
- “Below is the list of common classifications used by scholars to identify the various categories of the compiled narrations: 1. Dhai'f (weak) 2. Majhul (unknown) 3. Gharib (unfamiliar - strange) 4. Mu'adal (faulty – perplexing) 5. Maqtu (disconnected - severed) 6. Munqati (disconnected – broken) 7. Mudtarib (confounding) 8. Mauquf (untraceable - stopped) . 9. Mu'allaq (hanging - faulty) 10. Mursal (broken chain – hurried) 11. Munkar (denounced) 12. Mudraj (interpolated) 13. Maudu (fabricated – forged) 14. Musnad (subjective - supported) 15. Hasan (fair) 16. Muttasil (connected) 17. Maruf (traceable) 18. Sahih (sound) – ” Taken from http://www.mostmerciful.com/hadithbook-sectionone.htm Yes, we can reject those hadiths that are known NOT to be reliable. But the existence of sahih and authentic hadiths can't be denied. The Quran doesn't mention exactly how one should pray. The Quran doesn't mention the words of the Adhaan. This doesn't not mean that the Quran is incomplete, it is the word of God... a call to mankind (Muslims and non-Muslims alike). But what authentic hadiths offer is an extension to what Allah has commanded us. To make some of the decisions between right and wrong a little bit easier. The authentic Hadiths are Bukhari's and Muslim's and they are generally accepted throughout the whole world. Now if Allah promised to protect the Quran, I'm sure he would have protected the sahih hadiths as well.
- Q1: Is one muslim if you reject the Hadith: Ans: Yes, Absolutely and without the least doubt. Ibrahim was the originator of Islam and the first muslim. He was so, without any hadith. Besides, Only Quran is to be followed. There is no statement in the Quran to follow Hadith. Q2: Can you truly practice Islam if you reject Hadith? Ans: Why NOT. Everything is in the Quran. What is the need of Hadith. Q3: Do you have Quranic proof about being obedient to Hadith? Ans: NO !!!, On the contrary, we have solid evidence from Quran that those who will follow Hadith are the real strayers and in all probability destined to Hell. Q4: Did the Prophet Mohammad say to collect Hadith? Ans: We do NOT have credible history of prophet Mohammad !!! . We cannot determine if he said anything or not. Whether he did anything or not UNLESS it is in the Quran. Whatever we are getting as a history of Mohd. is "What is accepted by a large group of scholars". It is a TOTAL fabrication. The primary source of the history of Mohd. are as follows (in the order of precedence). 1- The hadith compilations (written mostly after +200 years after the death of Mohd.). 2- The Quran. 3- The earlier biographies which are mostly regarded as UNRELIABLE i.e. written by Ibn-e-Hassan and Ibn-e-Ishaq after +100 years after the death of Prophet Mohd. There are ONLY four things in writing that we have of the days of prophet Mohd. or a little later to him. 1- Some agreements that he did with the neighboring tribes. 2- The Quran. 3- A register sort of thing, that contains names of companions (approx. 1500). 4- A few letters that he wrote to different kings. Besides this the Shias claim that they have a FEW ahadith that someone from his house hold (in all probability ibn-e-Abbass) had written (written in or soon after the days of prophet Mohd.). They also claim that the original is secure with them (wallah-o-Alam). ----------xxxx---------------- Besides the above, we do not have ANY evidence or written material of the days of Prophet Mohd. or even later to him upto 40 hijri. Then we get the FIRST set of hadith, that was written by an INDIVIDUAL (not gov.) in approx. 58 hijri. This was by "Hamam ibn-e-Mamba" (the student of Abu-Huraira). From that point onwards to the 100 hijri again their is TOTAL silence both on Gov. scale as well on INDIVIDUAL scale. Then as we enter the second century, we find the different scripts coming up i.e. Malik's Muwatta (179 hijri), Musnad Hanbal, Mushkat Sharif, and then as we go into the 3rd century then we get the set of 6 hadith books that are termed as Sahih by the sunnis. It is these based on which the biography of Proph. Mohd. has been derived. How authentic it can be. ........ It is a big ?? To me NOT credible in the LEAST sense. Therefore I cannot even say that whether he said anything in particular or not. Note: the Hamam-ibn-e-Mamba was the student of Abu-Huraira and he wrote his compilation in Medina in his presence in 58 hijri. This compilation contains ONLY 138 hadith. While when Bukhari started collecting hadith in Iraq / Iran in +200 hijri (More than 160 years after this) later to this incident, he managed to get +650,000 hadiths. After rejecting +98% he included only 7300 of them. OUT of these 5200 are with reference to Abu-Huraira. What a Magic !!!. Besides, Bukhari himself rejected +98% hadith and was still called a muslim. So why NOT you. hahahaha.
- Salam, Let's first define what a Muslim is: "A person who peacefully submits or surrenders herself or himself to God alone is a Muslim. In other words, it is a person who has accepted God as the only authority for eternal salvation and tries his or her best to follow and respect divine laws elucidated in scripture and nature. With the exception of thoughts, prejudices and choices of ingrates and of those who associate partners to God, everything else in the universe is, in a sense, by definition a Muslim or submitter to God. There is no ritual, ceremony, or magical word to become a Muslim. Anyone who seeks the truth with their God-given reasoning faculties and senses is in essence Muslim; Muslims are those who guard against the influence of peers, parents, clergymen, ancestors, crowds, dogmas, ideology, and wishful thinking in the quest to find answers to various philosophical or theological questions. A Muslim, by not submitting her or his mind to any authority besides God, is a model free person. Since God is the truth, a Muslim is a perpetual seeker of truth and facts, and in this quest none other than truth and facts can have authority over him or her. Thus, a Muslim is a critical thinker, a brave free man standing on his or her own feet, and demonstrates a reasonable dose of skepticism in regard to accepting assertions, especially those that are related to his or her eternal salvation. " Here are my views on Hadith: I reject Hadith because I respect Muhammad. No sound person would like to have people born several centuries after him roam the earth and collect a bunch of hearsay attributed to him. Besides, if Muhammad and his supporters really believed that the Quran was not sufficient for guidance, an ambiguous book, or lacked details, then, surely they would be the first ones who would write them down and collect them in books. After all, their numbers were in tens of thousands and they had plenty of wealth. They could afford some ink, papyrus paper or leather, and some brain cells, for such an important task. They would not leave it for a guy from far Bukhara or his ilk who would come more than two hundred years to collect hadiths in a land soaked with blood because of sectarian wars. Besides, Muhammad had many unemployed or handicapped people around who could gladly volunteer for such mission. The traditional excuse fabricated for Prophet Muhammad and his supporters is absurd. Supposedly, Muhammad and his followers feared that people would mix the Quran with hadiths. This is nonsense. They were smart enough to distinguish both, and there were enough people to keep track of them. Besides, what is the use of separating both, if we will need the second for our salvation as much as we need the first? In practice, the followers of Hadith have perfectly mixed both. Worse, in most instances they have preferred hadith over the Quran. Furthermore, it is the followers of hadith and sunna themselves who claim that the Quran was a "literary miracle". If their claim of "literary miracle" were true, then it would be much easier to separate the verses of the Quran from hadith. Let's assume that they could not really distinguish the text of the Quran from Muhammad's words, then couldn't they simply mark the pages of the scripture with the letter Q for the Quran and letter H for Hadith, or let some record only the Quran, or simply color code their covers? Or allocate leather for the Quran and paper for hadith, or vise versa? They could find many ways to keep different books separate from each other. They did not need to study rocket science or have computer technology to accomplish that primitive task. The collectors of hadiths wished that people would accept their assertion that Muhammad and his supporters did not have ink, paper or leather, mind, and care to collect hadith before them. No wonder, they even fabricated a few hadiths claiming that Muhammad's companions were competing with dogs for bones to write on the verses of the Quran! Well, most likely, Muhammad feared that people would mix his words with the Quran. Not the primitive way that is depicted by the Sunnis and Shiites, since as we pointed out, there were many ways to eliminate that concern. But the real concern was different. Because of the warnings of the Quran, he had all the reasons to fear that Muslims would follow the footsteps of Jews and would create their own Mishna, Gomorra, and Talmud: hadith would be considered as an authority, as another source besides the Quran, setting him as partner with God! Ironically, the followers of hadith and sunna accomplished exactly that. They did not need to publish the text of hadith together with the Quran--though they have done that in many commentaries--they have been doing worse. Though they usually have kept hadith separate from the Quran physically, as far as for the purpose of guidance and religious authority, they mix it with the Quran. Even worse, they make the understanding of the Quran dependant to the understanding of hadith, thereby elevating hadith to position of authority over the Quran. Thus, if indeed Muhammad was worried about people mixing his words with the Quran, the followers of hadith proved his worries right: centuries after him, they did not only mix his words with the Quran, they mixed thousands of fabrication and nonsense attributed to him. See 25:30: "The messenger said, "My Lord, my people have deserted this Quran." " and 59:7 "Whatever God provided to His messenger from the people of the townships, then it shall be to God and His messenger; for the relatives, the orphans, the poor, and the wayfarer. Thus, it will not remain monopolized by the rich among you. You may take what the messenger gives you, but do not take what he withholds you from taking. Be aware of God, for God is mighty in retribution." Muhammad was both the messenger of God and elected leader of a diverse group in the city-state of Yathrib. As a leader and commander, he had the right to allocate the spoils of war. The verse does not mean that Muhammad gave us another book, or a television set, or silly stories, or numerous prohibitions; it is about a specific case, that is, the distribution of spoils of war. The followers of hadith and sunna, abuse this verse and take it out of context hoping to justify volumes of books containing numerous contradictory and silly hearsay reports. They want us to believe that to "take whatever Muhammad has given" means to take whatever story Bukhari and his ilk told several centuries after Muhammad's departure! (See 49:1 "O you who believe, do not place your opinion above that of God and His messenger. And be aware of God. God is Hearer, Knowledgeable.") Peace, Tiffy
- My basic basic rule of thumb is that, if a Hadeeth does not contradict the Sunnah and the Qur'an, then that Hadeeth is acceptable. Same way, if the reported Sunnah does not contradict the Qur'an, that Sunnah is acceptable. The Holy Qur'an is the only for sure 100% certainty that we know of. Everything else is held in light to the Qur'an.
- 1. Is one a Muslim if you reject the hadith. -- No. Rejection of the use of ahadith is the same as rejecting Prophet Muhammad. 2. Can you truly practice Islam if you reject the Hadith. -- No. The ahadith contain much information that constitutes a necessary explanation of the information in the Qur'an. 3. The Quran is a perfect book and dear to my heart, I will not deny that. Do you have Quranic proof about being obidient to Hadith? -- It was a lengthy process. Part 1 is here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080416074142AAynETf&r=w#AJZoKXHuBHIoGvr.HqF6 and part 2 is at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080416074142AAynETf&r=w#AJZoKXHuBHIoGvr.HqF6 . Most important is that the Qur'an backed up rulings that Prophet Muhammad made without quoting them, which means that one needs to know what those rulings were, which means that one needs to consult the ahadith that mention those rulings. 4. Did Prophet Muhammad(pbuh) say to collect Hadith? -- Prophet Muhammad did command the obedience of his followers. 'Abd Allah ibn Rawaha heard the Prophet say: "Sit!" Whereupon he sat in the middle of the road. He said to Prophet Muhammad, "I heard you say: 'Sit' so I sat." The Prophet said: "May Allah increase you in obedience." The Prophet called Abu Sa'id ibn al-Mu'alla al-Ansari as the latter was praying. Abu Sa'id...did not answer him. After Abu Sa'id finished praying the Prophet asked him: "What prevented you from answering me? Did Allah not say "O believers! Obey Allah and the Messenger when he calls you to what quickens you" (8:24)?" Some people claim that Prophet Muhammad commanded his followers not to collect ahadith. Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri reported that Prophet Muhammad said, “Do not write from me anything except the Qur’an...” However, this is the only sound hadith in this regard. The hadith meant that nothing should be written with the Qur’an on the same sheet, as this might lead to mixing the text of the Qur’an with that of the Hadith. `Abdullah ibn `Amr was permitted and even encouraged by the Prophet to write down Hadith. In addition, some 50 Companions and many followers are said to have possessed manuscripts of Prophetic ahadith. Mu'adh ibn Jabal indicated that he would use the Prophet's Sunnah as one of the source of Islamic legislation; and prophet Muhammad thumped him on the chest and praised him. Also, in his Farewell Sermon, Prophet Muhammad enjoined his followers, "All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly."
- [55:0] In the name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful [55:1] The Most Gracious. [55:2] Teacher of the Quran. "God has revealed the best 'Hadith'; a book that is consistent, and describes both ways (to heaven and Hell). The skins of those who reverence their Lord shudder therefrom, then their skins and hearts soften up and receive God's message. Such is God's guidance; He guides whomever He wills. As for those sent astray by Him, no one can guide them." (39:23) "There are those who advocate vain 'Hadith' causing diversion from the path of God, without knowledge, and fail to take such actions seriously; these have deserved humiliating retribution. And when our verses are recited to him, he turns away arrogantly, as if he never heard them; as if his ears are deaf; promise him painful retribution." (31:67) following hadith is Absolute Misguidance Absolutely hadith narraters/compilers deliberately misled misguided, majority of muslims and divided them into sects,Shia hadith books are altogether by sunnis and vice versa.these hadith books show that Prophet Muhammed Deliberately Violated Allah's Commands.and hadith followers Shamelessly agree with it by following hadith books and shamelessly think they are following Islam [10:39] Indeed, they have rejected this without studying and examining it, and before understanding it. Thus did those before them disbelieve. Therefore, note the consequences for the transgressors. hadith followers Idolize,Prophet Muhammed/Imams/fuqahas/scholars as per Allah Allmighty's words [3:80] Nor would he command you to idolize the angels and the prophets as lords. Would he exhort you to disbelieve after becoming submitters? they doubt that Honuable Quran is Complete,Deailed, and Perfect 6:114 and they question Shamelesly " where can i find Wadu and Salat ? They Reject Islam along with all religious duties(zakat.Salat.Hujj...) were given to Prophet Ibraheem and Not Prophet Muhammed, thus Idolizing Prophet Muhammed, and Rejecting 3:80. (53:23) "They insist upon following conjecture, when the guidance is given to them herein from their Lord." all religious Practices and Laws are in Glorious Quran, and the same Laws and Practices are DIFFERENT IN HADITH BOOKS, e:g 1) Shahadah 2) Salat . why do you do salat in whisper ,where as Quran says the tone should be moderate ! 3) Wadu Wadu differs among shias and sunnis .why ? 4) Rjam there is no such word as Rajam, the punishment is 50-100 lashes as per the victim 5) intercession no intercession as per Glorious Quran 6) Hujj there are 4 months of hujj and not just 1 ,as per Glorious Quran 7) Durud no such word in arabic quran such as durud 8) all religious duties were given to Prophet Ibraheem and not Prophet Muhammed as per glorious Quran and there are so many other hadith which directly violates Glorious Quran and Reject Allah's revelations
- Yes, teh Quran says to follow the Messenger, you should follow authentic Hadiths. http://thetruthexposed.webs.com/
