The Quran in the Light of Science?
Does the Quran mention Science? And to what extent. I am a Muslim and believe in God, Whilst my boyfriend doesent believe in God, but rather in scientific facts. Einsteins famous quote is; "Without religion, science is lame, and without science, religion is blind." So in other words, he is saying the both go hand in hand. I would like to know how my partner and i go hand in hand.

- i cant tell u bcoz i am a christian truly.
- Yes. The Qua'ran encourages education and for people to study and learn what's around them. Allah wanted his followers to be intelligent and to dive into knowledge. It is said in the Qua'ran that the ink of a scholar is holier than the blood of a martyr. I'm not quite sure where, but in the Qua'ran and many Hadiths there is alot of science. Facts and predictions.
- That's only one of Einstein's quotes. He was only religious in his awe of the universe. Otherwise, Einstein was an agnostic. You have many liars, such as the imprisoned Harun Yahya (real name: Adnan Oktar) who try to fit passages from the Quran as science.
- What science is there that describes how a man could fly into heaven on a winged horse?
- The Muslims were an advanced culture in the year 1,000, actually the most advanced culture in the world. There are science referents in the Qu'ran but I can't give you chapter and verse. Science can go just so far because it can only deal with provable facts that can be repeated to demonstrate their reliability. So it can't go into areas like belief - that's what religion is for - to believe when there are no facts to support your belief. Religion improves when science lights the way to a better understanding of the Creator. Science isn't trying to kill god, it's trying to shine a light on how he works so that we can understand him better. That's my take on it anyway.
- it looks remarkably like a book written by humans 1400 or so years ago. funny, that...
- the quran mentions in detail: 1. the creation of the universe in chronological order 2. the creation of earth in detail 3. the creation of the embroyo in detail 4. the speed of light 5. the dilation of time 6. the fact that the higher you ascent (e.g. in mount everest) the less the partial pressure of oxygen 7. descriptions of supernovae 8. how mountains are formed 9. how the atmosphere is formed 10. suggestions about multi-dimensions 11. suggestions about other worlds and universes 12. first holy scripture to mention atoms 13. suggestions about forensic science (fingerprints & footprints) 14. first holy scripture to suggest that the earth is not only spherical but "egg-shaped" ...plus lot more and remember that this was more than 1400 years ago... more than anything else it stresses on LEARN LEARN LEARN
- Science and Islam run together; walk hand-in-hand. I quote a feature from: http://islam.about.com/library/weekly/aa092300a.htm : In Islam, there is no conflict between faith in God and modern scientific knowledge. Indeed, for many centuries during the Middle Ages, Muslims led the world in scientific inquiry and exploration. The Qur'an itself, revealed 14 centuries ago, is filled with scientific facts and imagery that are supported by modern findings. The Qur'an instructs Muslims to "contemplate the wonders of creation" (Qur'an 3:191). The entire universe, which was created by Allah, follows and obeys His laws. Muslims are encouraged to seek knowledge, explore the universe, and find the "Signs of Allah" in His creation. Allah says: "Behold! In the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of ships through the ocean, for the profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth; here indeed are Signs for a people that are wise" (Qur'an 2:164) For a book revealed in the 7th century A.D., the Qur'an contains many scientifically-accurate statements. Among them: Creation "Do not the unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together, then We split them apart? And We made from water every living thing…" (21:30). "And Allah has created every animal from water. Of them there are some that creep on their bellies, some that walk on two legs, and some that walk on four..." (24:45) "See they not how Allah originates creation, then repeats it? Truly that is easy for Allah" (29:19). Astronomy "It is He Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. All (the celestial bodies) swim along, each in its rounded course" (21:33). "It is not permitted for the sun to catch up to the moon, nor can the night outstrip the day. Each just swims along in its own orbit" (36:40). "He created the heavens and the earth in true proportions. He makes the night overlap the day, and the day overlap the night. He has subjected the sun and the moon to His law; each one follows a course for a time appointed..." (39:5). "The sun and the moon follow courses exactly computed" (55:5). Geology "You see the mountains and think they are firmly fixed. But they pass away just as the clouds pass away. Such is the artistry of Allah, Who disposes of all things in perfect order" (27:88). Fetal Development "Man We did create from a quintessence of clay. Then we placed him as a drop of sperm in a place of rest, firmly fixed. Then We made the sperm into a clot of congealed blood. Then out of that clot We made a fetus lump. Then We made out of that lump bones, and clothed the bones with flesh. Then We developed out of it another creature. So blessed be Allah, the Best to create!" (23:12-14). "But He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him of His spirit. And He gave you hearing, and sight, and understanding" (32:9). "That He did create the pairs, male and female, from a sperm-drop when lodged in its place" (53:45-46). "Was he not a drop of sperm emitted, then did he become a leach-like clot. Then did Allah make and fashion him in due proportion. And of him He made two sexes, male and female" (75:37-39). "He makes you in the wombs of your mothers in stages, one after another, in three veils of darkness" (39:6).
- While there is no doubt that Islam's beginnings were fertile grounds for science, many centuries have passed without significant contributions from those quarters. To quote from one scholar in the field, Taner Edis: "The prospects for an improved relationship between popular varieties of Islam and modern science remain bleak, nonetheless."
- I am more or less an agnostic who does not believe in 'god' - at least not the one described in any religion. A 'personal god' is possible in my mind. Just not probable. I have been married for nearly 13 years to a (beautiful) woman who was raised southern baptist, and who still has a very deep faith and belief in god. We have had occasional disputes over things, but fortunately while she is religious, she is also fairly well grounded in reality. What we are able to agree on, is that the messages in the bible (as well as those in the Quran) are mostly meant to be taken metaphorically. It doesn't matter whether any of it is true or not past a certain point, only that we do everything that we can to make ourselves better people, and to uplift those around us. This is a crazy life, in a crazy world - if someone finds something that helps them cope, find meaning in their life, or make sense out of any of this - then more power to them. Unfortunately there are those who would use it to control entire populations through ignorance and fear. This is possible only because people allow themselves to accept things with no proof. I don't believe that science has all of the answers (the wise man knows how little he knows), it has barely scratched the surface - but the self-correcting methods developed by science are by and far the best thing we have going for determining the 'truth' as to the origins of the universe, and to unlock all of the secrets.
- If you are muslim you cannot go hand in hand with your boy friend. you can go with your husband only. There is scientific facts in holy Quran but it is not a scientific book. it is a guide to mankind for salvation after death. if your boy friend believe only science Islam has nothing to do with.
- whatever good passages there may be in that book is shadowed by the extreme stupidity it implants on the mind of its followers.. 033.059 O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. what craziness equals that? giving men the right to molest a woman because her dress isn't so decent, and worse blame the woman for it. will i accept science coming from the same book? no thanks..
- The Quran has contrdictions. Some of the verses contradict with science, such as 1) According to Holy Quran mountains prevent earthquake or the shaking of the earth. In Sura Al Al-Anbiyaa (Chapter 21 verse# 31) It says " And We have placed on the earth firm mountains, lest it should shake with them If mountains prevent earthquakes then why do we see so many earthquakes in mountainous regions?. For example, Japan is a mountainous zone but it has 1500 earthquakes every year.'Shaking of the earth' and earth quakes mean the same thing right? 2)Are men created from ejaculated liquid from backbone and ribs according to the Quran? The holyQuran in Sura At Tariq ( Chapter 86 verse# 6-7) says " He is created from a water gushing forth Proceeding from between the back-bone and the ribs" According to science there are two seminal vesicles behind the urinary bladder. These produce semen and seminal fluid which support spermatozoa and facilitate their movement. The testicles produce only 5% of the sperm. The seminal vesicles produce between 60 to 70% of the semen content per ejaculation. The seminal vesicles are located near the urinary bladder not between the backbone and ribs. So the verse is clearly in error. There was a Greek Physicist called Galen. He lived in 100 A.D he believed in the idea that men is created from ejaculated liquid gushing from backbone and the sperm. 3)In Sura Al Mulk (Chapter 67) Ayaat # 5 it says "And We have adorned the lowest heaven with lamps, and we have made such (Lamps as) missiles to drive away Satans, ... " So the stars were created by Allah as missiles to throw at the devils? In order to not let them eavesdrop on the heavenly council?
