This is in general. I'm not talking about small countries with big count on OIL, I'm talking about in general.. have you ever used an Islamic car? or Islamic radio recorder? or TV produced in whole in Islamic nation? Are the world expecting stability in Islamic countries? why all Muslims suffer? If you are Muslim don't you ask yourself about the main reason that makes us different than even China, Russia, Europe and others!! Let's talk in general. I think they have right to exist. However, we can learn from this experience...while Israel was building and constructing itself...Arabs were trying to destruct Israel and ignore themselves. the resutl is Israel became advance, Arabs became more backward. and they start to nogatiate, cuz they lost. Islamic nation now doing same, instead of building itself, it focus on fundemental princples they believe in, and they want prevent ppl from doing it. Instead of destroying the west, build the nation. instead of fighting, let's build our countries. after being great, you can talk. as long as you small, no one will care about you. why at all thinking of solving problems by wars? USA got independence 1776, some hundred years ago , and since then it is in path of development... Those countries most of them have their idependence in post 1920... not even a hundred years have passed .. Give em some time for development. They are rebuilding their nation form what is leftover..and most are not as blessed as America in Natural resourses. Though if you look at progress curve what they have is steeper.
Failure of governance is intrinsic within Islam and always will be as long as they continue to mix their religion with their politics. Once a leader comes into power they also rule over the Ulama, thus the Shari'ah and fiqh change giving the leader absolute power of church and mosque. And, as the historically proven proverb goes, absolute power corrupts absolutely. So as long as Islam blends with the State, Islamic countries will alway fail.
One answer: some of their leaders tend to enrich themselves, and controll the population's consent by "throwing the stick" (braging about hatred, israel and other) in order to make people NOT think about their more important problems such as unemployment poverty or famine. That technique is very old, but still effective everywhere. For example: just as you see rioting in islamic countries, you do NOT see them in the US concerning oil companies who are purposly keeping prices high. Second Answer There are some societies which do not really mind cars or infrastructure. It does not mean that they cannot achieve the western standards, they simply prefer it that way. The fact is that modern infrastructure (cars+roads+tv+internet+electricity) worked its way through after industrial revolution (after a century and a half). Imagine Europe or US before that. The bottom line is, you cannot expect people from different social realities to conform to one standard. Not untill there is equal access to that standard and people accept it.
I think any nation that is successful is one that helps its citizens succeed. People are allowed to work hard and keep some of the money they earn...if the government takes it all, then the people are poor..more education also helps the people....
obviously u do not have enough lesson about the history of the world. i suggest i to find a book about it and read.( all of u ) when the european people r in the dark age, the muslim world is very well develop. this shows that it is not the religion that restrict its people from the development but the way it was done. fyi( if u r not knowing it yet) the west people r the one that seek knowledge from the muslims at that time. after the dark age, the islam world was fall apart because of some reason. and the revolution in the west. they decided to set their religion aside for the sake of development ( and yet, their religion r not the one that made them live in the dark age, but their priests). so, they went all out and start supresses the islamic world. after the world war 2, the ottoman empire fell ( please read about ww2 ). and after that, the young leader in turkey decided to be secular too, like the west. at that time, the west was already conquer nearly all the country in the world for atleast 300 years. they become rich because of that. only after the world war 2 that the countries in the world start to stand on their own and fight hard for independence. the islam world which was paralysed for 300 years,cannot immediately rebuild their nation. and after that, the things goes like what StupendousMan said. the west already 300 years ahead of other countries in technology. their economy is good too, thanks to the natural resourses that they took from the conquered, and the knowledge they develop, which some ( alot, i believe) from the islam world. the muslim people r nowadays divided to many large group. they r not united. thats why the development of their country r slow (not the religion itself) . and some of them think like Brian did. some did like what omnitel2000 said. so, that was what is happens to the world of islam today. it is the people who practise islam who r wrong, not the religion itself. many of them do not fully understand their own religion. what they do only believe what their father and mother believe ( so did nearly all of u). i didnt say that islam is wrong (im muslim too) but they dont practise islam way of life the right way . there is a lot of evidence for this (seek for ur selves).
My professor discussed this in an "Art and Culture" class once. As I understand it, it's the other way around. The socio-economic state of these countries make them excellent breeding grounds for Islam. It is the religion that ~seems to them~ to court their situation the best. Not trying to compare in as insulting a way as possible, but it's kind of like Hitler's dogma at the time was exactly what the German people needed to hear. They were poor, starving, demoralized and humiliated. Hitler preached power, prosperity and pride, and a *whole nation* ate it up. Human nature, same the world over.
Good question, first let discuss the unstablity problem, As you may know Henry Kissinger, US Secretary of State under Presidents Nixon & Ford says "Oil is much too important a commodity to be left in the hands of the Arabs.---" Fact is Oil cant be produced in an unstable country because it is flamable itself and need lots of pipeline to transfer so there must be stable countries in unstable atmosphere. Middle east has been unstable for many years, USSR and UK has been in territory before WWI and has been replaced by US after that. Israel and Arabs have problems since WWII, Iranians and Arabs have problems even before Islam... About being poor, apart from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahran, Iran, Iraq, Indonesia, Turkey, Lebonan... there are some poor Islamic countries like Yaman, Afghanestan.... I don't think Islam has been the reason that they are poor, they are mostly countries without resources and good leaders, some of them have been in war since many years ago like Afghanestan. You can't generalize it, there are many rich Islamic countries and there are poor Islamic countries, you can't say every christian country is rich or every Islamic country is poor. Proper question is why Islamic countries are not advanced in technology. You can't compare Islamic countries with China, as you know most of resources are in Small countries and they rather buy western cars every year instead of making a automobile factory, you must take it easy on them, you can't force Emarat Arabs to do so, you better know how they are, they even don't explore their oil, western companies do that for them, they don't have an army, western troops protect them, what do you expect of these people? to spend money on science? Do you think its Islam fault? This is not a problem with Islam, this is a problem with Muslims, you know that most of Islamic scientist weren't from Saudi Arabia. You know that science has been emphasized in Islam, there is a Hadith from Mohammad that says "Learn Sience from cradle to grave" Like always you have neglected Iran, I have told you, you don't know anything about Iran, there is an Iranian passenger car(Maybe not comparable with BMW but It's not that bad, it can satisfy euro3 standards http://www.ikco.com) and TVs, there are some Iranian TV producers and there are good universities in Iran, they export lots of students each year and we explore our oil ourselves.
